Boys & Girls Club Battles Batchelor

Top Story

With the IHSAA realigning of classes and Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South playing the Bloomnigton schools this year, the 7th & 8th graders got an early look at their High School competition Monday night. The 7th Grade Titans and the 8th Grade Rebels traveled to Bloomington to take on the Batchelor Bulldogs.

The 7th grade game was a fantastic battle both ways. Batchelor got on the board early as their elusive running back slipped his way for a 25 yard score. Batchelor was stopped on the two point conversion by the defensive unit of Lance Dooley, Dacoda Dixon, Kayne Parker-Egli, Chris Weber, and David Riley. The Titans were able to battle back with a 96 yard touchdown pass from QB Timmy Fiddler to Bailey Merritt. Merritt’s precise route running and Fiddler’s accurate pass allowed the play to happen in a smooth transition without breaking stride.  The two point conversion failed and the score was deadlocked at 6-6.

Batchelor began a long drive after a Tyler Loughmiller kickoff deep in Bulldog territory. The Bulldogs were able to cap off this drive with a tough run up the middle. They also converted on the two point try to take the lead 14-6 with under a minute left in the 4th quarter.

The Titan offense came back out with a short clock of 38 seconds and down eight points. On the 2nd play of the drive Fiddler and Merritt hooked up in the air once again to put the score at 12-14 in favor of the Bulldogs. With a two point conversion to tie the game, the Titans converted with a QB keeper by Fiddler. On the tying conversion the line of Loughmiller, Lance Dooley, Will Morley and the full back Jaben Moothery all had great blocks to allow Fiddler to get the ball across the goal line.

The game ended in a 14-14.

The 8th Grade Rebels came into the game with some injuries and illnesses that kept their starting QB and WR out of the game. This forced some new faces into unfamiliar place with limited practice time. The Batchelor Bulldogs wasted no time showing their might causing the Rebels to turn over the ball on their opening drive. The hard hitting game saw four Rebel starters pick up injuries.  The injuries coming into the game, and those suffered during the game made it difficult for the Rebels offense to get going.

The game saw Batchelor walk away with a 38-0 Victory.
